Practice
your escape route in the event of a fire |

about the safest place in your home to go in the event of bad
weather, such as tornadoes |

Pick up
throw rugs and runners that are placed on top of the existing
carpet (especially in the traffic paths throughout the home) |

Place
telephone and electrical cords out of the traffic paths
throughout the home |

Install
non-skid rugs in the kitchen and bathrooms |

Consider
raising the height of your chairs and couches with wooden
platforms, Contact your local Senior Services office to
see if they have funds available to assist in offsetting the
costs. |

Wipe up
spills immediately |

Wear
non-slip shoes and slippers |

Place
frequently used items where they can be reached safely and
easily (please don't stand on a chair to reach for things) |

 |
Install
handrails on both sides of the stairs if possible |

Have the
water heater adjusted to a suitable temperature to avoid
scalding |
|
 |
Install
sturdy grab bars in the tub, shower and next to the toilet |
|
 |
Install
non-skid tape or mats with suction cups in the tub or shower |
|
 |
Avoid
using bath oils or lotions in the bathtub |

 |
Provide a
copy of your medical history, list of doctors and
medications to another family member or friend who does NOT
reside in the home and can assist you ifyou cannot speak on
your own behalf (See Medical History form below for your use.
Remember to review and update the form as needed.) |

Provide a
copy of "Your Living Will" and "Durable Medical Power of
Attorney" to the same family member or friend as well as your
doctor |

If you do
not yet have a "Living Will" and "Durable Medical Power of
Attorney", consider getting started today so that your wishes
will be followed if you cannot speak on your own behalf.

Don't display large sums of cash or leave your purse unattended |

Gentlemen: Don't display large sums of cash and try to keep the
cash in your front pant's pockets or inside your jacket |

"Buddy System" with certain family member or friend and check in
with each other daily |
